NHL Underway – Ride the Leaf’s

By on

It has been 54 seasons since the Toronto Maple Leaf’s last hoisted the stanley cup trophy After a heartbreaking finish to what was a triumphant 2020 season for the Leaf’s, Sheldon Keefe and the guys are back to make a run at it once more. It was only a few months ago that the Maple Leaf’s had clinched the Northern division title only to watch their Stanley Cup hopes pass by, being eliminated in the post season just a few weeks later by their rivals from Montreal, who they happen to open the season against tonight. This was the 5th consecutive year that the Leaf’s have failed to advance any further from then the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs despite having all of the talent necessary to do so. Needless to say, their fans are hungry for a title and are desperately hoping that this is the year. Being that this will be Keefes first year running the show from start to finish in a complete 82 game season, you can expect them to come out ready to go. They’ll look to get off on the right foot as -180 home favorites and if our DFS projections on draft kings are are of any indication, they should have no problem doing just that.

If you are looking to get your DFS hockey season started in the right direction, we highly recommend utilizing players on the Leaf’s. Based on our projections and with the help of our NHL optimizer, we have determined several places in your DFS lineup tonight where you will generate enough bang for your buck by utilizing a Maple Leaf. At the top of the list, Center John Tavares is used in 88% of our optimized lineups followed immediately by defensemen Rasmus Sandin at 81%. Over the course of his career, Tavares has maintained a 13.2 S% which is nearly 1.5% higher than his average from a season ago. Now the league has returned to a bit of normalcy, Tavares will too and this gets underway tonight. He has the potential to produce just as much as guys like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl but cost you less. As far as Sandin, this is a player you should get used to seeing in your lineup. This is a player that can score from the blue line constantly and make an impact with or without the puck with his ice vision and intelligence. He is currently listed with a salary of just $2500 on draft kings and even though he’s currently on the 3rd line, he won’t be going this cheap for very long. Suck as much value out of him as you can, while you can.
